TSNI Nonprofit Web Intelligence

We built the largest nonprofit technology monitoring engine in America. Here's what it does.

The TSNI Nonprofit Web Intelligence is a Python-based intelligence platform that continuously scans nonprofit websites across the country and generates digital health data at a scale nobody else is doing.

The 700,000 Domain Database

We extracted approximately 700,000 nonprofit domains from IRS Form 990 public datasets, mapped those legal entities to their validated live websites, and started scanning. Every single day.

The result? An unprecedented level of visibility into the actual technical footprint of the nonprofit sector. Not surveys, not self-reported data, but real, measured infrastructure.

What We Actually Monitor

The TSNI Nonprofit Web Intelligence is a passive scanner. We don’t touch anything; we just observe. Here’s what we track:

  • Technology Stack. What CMS are you running? WordPress, Drupal, something custom from 2009? We detect it, along with your hosting provider, JavaScript frameworks, and analytics tools.
  • SSL & Security Status. Is your certificate valid? Is it about to expire? Are you enforcing HTTPS, or are your donors seeing scary browser warnings?
  • Uptime & Performance. Is your site actually online right now? How fast does it respond? Does it work on a phone?
  • Domain Health. DNS configuration, domain registration status. The boring stuff that breaks everything when it goes wrong.
  • Search Presence. Are you using your Google Ad Grant? Can people actually find you on Google when they search for your mission?

The TSNI Nonprofit Web Index

When the Alexa ranking service shut down, there was no single definitive source for ranking nonprofit websites. So we built our own.

The TSNI Nonprofit Web Index is a proprietary composite score we generate by combining multiple open and commercial data sources:

  • Tranco
  • Cloudflare Radar
  • Moz Domain Authority
  • SEMrush traffic estimates
  • Google CRUX (Chrome User Experience Report)

This powers our annual Top 100 lists, state-by-state comparisons, and sector category rankings. All based on actual measured digital effectiveness, not vanity metrics.

Why This Matters (In Your Language, Not Ours)

We believe data is useless if it only speaks to engineers. So we translate every technical finding into mission impact language.

Instead of reporting “Expired SSL Certificate”, we tell you:

Donors visiting your site see security warnings. Research shows this reduces online donations by up to 35%.

Instead of “No mobile viewport detected”, we say:

70% of your potential supporters are on their phones. Your site doesn’t work for them.

That’s the TSNI Nonprofit Web Intelligence. It watches, it measures, and it tells you the truth, whether you like it or not.

Want to see how the machine actually works? We wrote a full deep-dive for funders, researchers, and the incurably curious.
